Frequently Asked Questions:
Do our students attend Mass?
LFS attends Mass every Friday as a school community. We also celebrate our Catholic tradition through celebrations such as: Reconciliation during Advent and Lent, Stations of the Cross during Lent, May Crowning in our beautiful Rose Garden, celebration of our Patron Saint: St. Therese on October 1, Catholic Schools' Week.
What is our average class size?
Little Flower's average class size is about 24 students per class. We have one class for each grade. Currently we have K5 through Grade 8.
What exciting things are happening at LFS?
It is our goal at Little Flower School to use technology to reach all learners where they are and academically challenge them to go one step further than they thought they could. Teachers at Little Flower School use technology to enhance instruction and make learning meaningful for students. New skills are taught visually, auditorally and kinesthetically through various types of technology.
Currently, Little Flower School has a 16 -seat computer lab that students attend twice a week. There are 2 carts of 21 Mac books that students are able to use in their classes. Students can learn through applications such as Microsoft Office, including Power Point, Appleworks, Kidspiration, Inspiration, iTunes, iPhoto, Keynote, Comic Life and the Internet. Every classroom has a Smart Board, an LCD projector, and speakers. Teachers have received training on how to implement lessons with the Smart Board and teachers use a program called Safari Montage with which they can show videos or clips through their computer. There are 16 digital cameras available to students so that students can capture concepts they are studying in everyday surroundings.
The latest technology that students are using is the Senteo Response System. This is an interactive system that is used with the Smart Board in which students can actively participate in lessons at the same time. Teachers receive immediate feedback on each student and can therefore adjust their instruction as needed. Because students are using a remote control to click in their answer, everyone is participating. This is another way that technology is used to actively engage each student and appeal to all learning styles.
Little Flower has started teaching Spanish to our students in Grades K - 8. We have a full time teacher with us this year and will continue to offer Spanish in the future.
Where do our students go to high school?
We have about 70% of our students who will go on to Catholic High School. Students who have applied to the IB Program are accepted and do very well. Other students will attend West Tech or their local area high schools. Wherever they go, our students are well prepared.
Is Little Flower an Accredited School?
Yes, in April of 2007, Little Flower received full accreditation through the Florida Catholic Conference.
Are our teachers certified?
Little Flower School teachers are certified. We have teachers who have Master's Degrees and four teachers are currently working on their Master's Degrees.
